Go in Peace: Sen. Ezea mourns Late Okobo

Image
*Go in Peace, Shepherd of Shepherds*  Like everyone else in Igbo Nsukka, I received with sadness and pain in my heart the  news of the passing into glory of Rt. Rev. Bishop Dr Francis Emmanuel Ogbonnaya Okobo, the first bishop of the Catholic Diocese of Nsukka. It was one tragedy too many especially for us Catholics in the diocese. I encountered the late Bishop Okobo severally in my life, and I can attest to two qualities in him: his commitment to the development of the Catholic Diocese of Nsukka, and his love for the  growth and well-being of Igbo Nsukka including her political emancipation. In matters of politics, the Lord's shepherd never sat on the fence. We always knew where he stood politically. His Lordship Okobo has left us nearly 17 years after the first bishop of Nsukka extraction, Bishop Michael Eneja, quit the stage. We thank God that both shepherds of shepherds lived to old age. Bishop Okobo lived for God and for us. We should honour him with our conduct. On ...

Kabiru Garba Marafa, former senator for Zamfara Central, has officially split from the All Progressives Congress (APC ), calling out President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for what he described as a "use-and-dump" leadership style. Marafa, who was pivotal in securing Tinubu's victory in Zamfara during the 2023 presidential election, feels the state has been betrayed and marginalized under Tinubu’s administration despite its loyalty and contributions. Marafa’s frustration stems from several grievances. First, Zamfara received only a *Minister of State appointment*, while other Northwest states, including those where Tinubu lost, bagged two substantive ministerial slots. Even Lagos, which didn’t deliver for Tinubu, has allegedly enjoyed far more federal attention and developmental projects. Meanwhile, Zamfara has been left grappling with worsening insecurity—reportedly topping Nigeria’s kidnapping charts in 2024 with *1,203 abductions out of 4,722 nationwide*. Recent attac...
