PDP GOVERNMENT IN ENUGU STATE LEADS DEMOCRACY TO GOLGOTHA WITH PLANS TO SET UP CARETAKER COMMITTEE ACROSS THE 17 LOCAL GOVERNMENT INSTEAD OF CONDUCTING ELECTION. _By UGWUOKE EZE_ One of the easiest ways to destroy democracy is by denying the electorates the opportunity to elect their leaders. Recently in Enugu state, the electoral body which is saddled with the responsibility of conducting local government elections in the state,ENSIEC released a timetable on how it will conduct the 2024 local government election across the seventeen local government in the state . Following the release of the timetable, the major opposition party in the state, Labour party in line with the provisions of the Constitution and electoral guidelines concluded her primary elections even submitted the list of her Candidates who will stand for the election to the electoral body. Surprisingly to many, PDP in the state even till this moment is yet to nominate a candidate for the said election. Yet, the commissioner for information in the state deceptively and cunningly came out to confuse Enugu people by stating that there was no plan for caretaker committee by the state government but Enugu people are already seing the signal .The question is, who is now fooling who in Enugu state? Is it the case that the PDP led administration is afraid of going to the field for the election because of the fear of being defeated?. Someone close to the party explained that the state governor may not be comfortable to conduct the election on the ground that many stateholders of the party have been relegated by this administration and as such may do everything possible to disappoint the party for the second time as they did in the last general election. Some explained that the governor may at the last moment tell Enugu people that there are no funds to conduct the election which may throw Enugu people into a dictatorial condition.However, there is no argument any further that all the democratic promises made by the PDP led administration for Enugu people are nothing more than Political frauds and manipulations which is not just being exposed now with the strategic delay in the conduct of local government election but also in the government's failure to fulfill any of his campaign promises even till this moment but that will be a story line for another time.There is no doubt at all that Enugu state government led by PDP is about to destroy the democracy in the state .We shall keep talking!
