PETER MBAH'S MINIONS STEP UP ACERBIC ATTACKS ON EDEOGA, AS THE GOVERNOR'S ILLEGITIMACY CRISIS DEEPENS
By George Anionoh
In the past couple of weeks, the Enugu Labour Party leadership, and in particular, the person of Hon. Chijioke Jonathan Edeoga, the rightful winner of the Enugu State 2023 governorship election, has come under ferocious attacks by minions and aides of the Enugu State government. If it's not about the cattle colony planned for Uzo-uwani in the name of ranching or the ambiguous and nebulous 'Produce City to be cited in Eha-Amufu, it's about the continuing impoverishment of Ndi Enugu through excruciating taxation, all of which have elicited spontaneous bashes from the people.
Before now, the governor's media managers had worked so hard to drag Hon. Chijioke Edeoga's name to widespread criticism which greeted the governor's failed deception to provide water to all homes in Enugu metropolis within 180 days of inauguration.
Each time the discomfited and bewildered Enugu people reacted through essays and comments, both in the social and mainstream media, against directonless leadership and numerous missteps, the uncouth simpletons, in their desperation to please Peter Mbah , vented their frustration on Chijioke Edeoga.
In their three recent articles, the lackeys laboured to show that the essays spontaneously written by frustrated Enugu citizens and residents, originated from Chijioke Edeoga's media desk. What an affront on the sensibilities of a people! Are the pawns reasoning that Ndi Enugu have lost the right to demand good leadership or that they have to seek permission or the consent of any person or persons, including Hon. Chijioke Edeoga before exercising their constitutional right to freedom of expression? Can that constitutional right be circumscribed by anyone in a democracy?
Who in Nigeria except the Mbahs of this world has not heard, seen or perceived the menace of Fulani pastoralists, who are themselves opposed to ranching, in any place they're allowed to settle down, let alone one enjoying government's patronage? From Benue, Nasarawa to Taraba States, it's been tales of woes, sorrow, misery and blood bath on a scale that has in Benue alone, produced over 140 IDP camps and over 2 million displaced Persons between 2016 and 2023. That is the kind of disaster Peter Mbah plans for a part of Igbo land for no reason. When the people reacted by reasoning that the only justification for such an idea at this time, is to enable the governor pay back some northern Emirs who played key roles in his imposition , the governor and his idle aides would blame all those on Edeoga.
It really baffles critical observers why Peter Mbah and his cantankerous media aides have yet to distinguished between articles coming directly from the people and those linkable to the Enugu Labour Party or the Chijioke Edeoga media desk. For the avoidance of doubt, while Enugu people are expected to continue resisting Mbah's ant-ipeople policies and programmes , the Enugu Labour Party leadership has not since the Nkanu East daylight robbery of 2023 , written about anything else other than Peter Mbah's right to govern Enugu State being a clear loser in that year's governorship election.
Since it's not in dispute even among diehard PDP supporters that Hon. Chijioke Edeoga was the rightful winner of the election and was leading with more than eleven thousand votes before the dubious Festus Okoye and Prof.Maduebibisi Iwe were shamefully recruited to use manufactured votes from the two wards of Owo and Ugbawka, where lies Mbah's authority to govern Enugu State? Is Mbah's authority coming from the INEC , the corrupt and captured courts or from the people? If democracy is indeed a government of the people , where does rulership by imposition fit in?
Those are the questions Edeoga's team and the Labour Party will not cease asking. This is so because without a legitimate authority to govern, issues such as RUGA, heavy taxation, Enugu water project deception and so on, become inchoate. Why is military rule demonized worldwide? It can't be because it doesn't provide infrastructure as records show that more than half of Nigeria's prized universities, bridges, stadia, airports and seaports were built during the military rule. If the only reason for it's demonization is that a military government is not elected by the people, what is worse than an imposed civilian government ? If the election crimes Peter Mbah committed to get to power could be tolerated in a decent and democratic society, why don't we also allow the military a space in governance as the operators too are not foreigners but Nigerians ?
In one of the lame articles, the shameless Mbah's skivvies, justified his job on the ground that the INEC announced him winner while he also won in all the courts. What a self deceit taken too far ? Whenever truth is turned upsidedown through a pitiably corrupt judiciary, the result is what is playing out in Enugu; an illegitimate government the people have refused to own.
From Peter Mbah's experience so far, it's clear to him and his cohorts that legitimacy is neither conferred by the INEC nor the courts but the people alone . Where the people are not involved, a government produced by fraud, fumbles on end while the people watch gleefully as it skids from one ditch to another. They do so to prove a point. That point is that a government not produced by them is bound to fail. Nothing stolen is useful to anyone.
