WHY ENUGU PEOPLE MAY CONTINUE TO FALL FOR PETER MBAH'S MEDIA SHOW

*WHY ENUGU PEOPLE MAY CONTINUE TO FALL FOR PETER MBAH'S MEDIA SHOW*

By Ezugwu Martins Chimguzorom (EMC)

The truth remains that a lot of what seems to be manipulation of the people through social media has grown and spread like wild fire since Peter Mbah assumed office as the governor of Enugu State even though the process that brought him has questionable.

Peter Mbah has obviously mastered the psychological posture of Enugu people especially those from Enugu North extraction which has helped him to press them down and show them images as relief for  their unhappiness.

Peter Mbah started as a man who was studying the people of Enugu State at a time when a lot of people were skeptical on whether this man has any plan for the people or for himself. He calmly stayed back on his executive chair and drew the conclusion that even though he knows within himself that most of the promises he desperately made during his campaign days were nothing but empty to the core and therefore, but he needed to find a way to keep the people believing that he has genuine intentions for them.
Skillfully, he announced the revamping of water project in the state which according to him, would ensure that every households in the Enugu metropolis had access to drinking water. Immediately that was announced, a lot of political sentimentalists were thrown into celebration. Many stakeholders encouraged everyone to keep holding the plough as Mbah has come to transform the state for good. On the other hand,  some like us refused to agree immediately, hoping to see the results before celebrating so as not to cut our celebration short even though, that project if Continued and completed, would have been a landmark achievement to Peter Mbah and to the good people of Enugu state. To prove my disagreement right, Peter Mbah quickly silenced everything concerning the water project as our people continued to pay heavily to access drinking water.
Enugu state people wept and pretended to have moved on with life but the injury still remains in the heart. Not long after, Mr. Peter Mbah announced the award of contract to revamp the dilapidated Oil processing industry in the state. According to him, 100 billion naira was allocated to the project even when the company to handle the project was four months old as of the time of the contract. This time many media warriors were employed after he had discovered that such strategy works perfectly well on Enugu people. Several months have gone, no one talks about the revamping of the oil processing industry. Enugu state people wept and pretended to have moved on with life.

After some times, Mr. Peter Mbah came up again with another announcement that he had commissioned 71 roads in the state. This particular announcement drew a lot of media praises to him while people who are offline wondered if another Enugu State existed where those roads were or  was it this particular Enugu where all of us are living.  At the end of it all, it ended up on Facebook, X and Whatsapp with different pictures that are pleasant to the eyes.

As if that is not enough, Peter Mbah had severally on different occasions announced that European investors were willing to invest in the state but on daily basis, local investors are leaving the state for the fear of over taxation and insecurity.

Mr. Peter Mbah went on again to demolish the only market in Enugu north on the alter of building a motor park. Despite several rejections by the people including those whose shops and properties were affected, the market was demolished without prior notice or adequate compensation to the owners of the properties. This single act attracted several criticisms but the governor and those who have constructed straw  in him saw nothing wrong in it. Nsukka people wept and pretended that all is now well as there is little they can do as the motor park is yet to be given a meaningful shape.

The same demolition continued and extended to Holy Ghost and even to some private properties in the state.

The governor later again, came up with another idea of building smart schools across the political wards in the state while the already existing government schools are dilapidated without anyone paying attention to them. The purpose for the smart school is still unknown as that has kept people wondering if renovating the already existing government schools was not the best option than venturing into new schools. This  did not go without his media defence ministers struggling to defend him.

Insecurity within the state has tremendously increased as people are being shot, killed and kidnapped almost on daily basis yet his media hype men have continuously created positive security impression on media while our people die like hens in the hands of suspected herders.

Recently, Mr. Peter Mbah  took his media show again to Enugu North where he gathered people in celebration that he had flagged off the dualization of Opi_Ugwuogo  road without a detailed explanation about the whole contract. The amount for the construction was not announced, duration was hidden,  terms of the contract are yet to be seen but he has achieved his aim which is creating the impression that he is doing something but in reality, it is a motion without movement.

In his media caricature, the state workers are not left out. He has sacked several staff who refused to dance to his obnoxious policies.
Because of pressure, he recently just like his campaign promises, promised to pay 80 thousand naira as the new minimum wage just to draw media attention.

The one that shocked almost everyone is when he decided to tax the dead bodies in the mortuary!!!
Well, this should be another story on its own.

In all, Peter Mbah may have good intentions for the state which of course going by the initiatives like revamping of the Oil processing industry, water project, roads etc can testify to that but he seems to be a capitalist who has only come to expand his personal business territory.
